I. Function Overview

The MTL5081 is mainly used to isolate low-level DC signals from voltage sources in hazardous areas and transmit them to receiving instruments in safe areas. It is particularly suitable for connecting external thermocouples with cold-junction compensation. Via the switches on the device, users can flexibly choose whether to enable the thermocouple protection function; meanwhile, another switch can set the output signal to bias towards maximum or minimum, so as to meet diverse needs in different industrial scenarios.

II. Technical Parameters

  • Signal Input Range: The acceptable input signal range is 0 to +50mV, with a certain over-range capability up to ±55mV. This enables it to be compatible with various types of thermocouples with different range specifications—whether it is common K-type, J-type thermocouples, or niche-type thermocouples in some special application scenarios, as long as their output signals fall within this range, the MTL5081 can stably receive and process them.
  • Output Characteristics: The typical value of output resistance is 60Ω. The output signal has high accuracy, with an error controlled within ±0.2%, ensuring the accuracy of the signal during transmission and providing a reliable data foundation for subsequent control systems. In terms of signal transmission speed, it can reach within 10% of the final value in 160μs. The fast response feature enables the system to monitor temperature changes more timely, which is conducive to improving the control accuracy and stability of the entire industrial production process.
  • Temperature Drift: The maximum temperature drift coefficient is 2μV/℃, which means that the output signal of the isolation barrier is less affected by temperature under different ambient temperatures. Even in industrial sites with large ambient temperature changes—such as high-temperature operating environments like iron and steel smelters and cement plants, or outdoor industrial facilities in cold regions—the MTL5081 can still operate stably, ensuring the accuracy and stability of signal transmission, and greatly reducing measurement errors and control deviations caused by ambient temperature changes.
  • Thermocouple Break Protection: It is equipped with a safe drive function for thermocouple breakage. When a thermocouple break fault is detected, it can output according to the pre-set mode, avoiding system misjudgment or out-of-control caused by thermocouple faults. For example, users can set it to output a signal biased towards maximum or minimum when the thermocouple breaks, so that the control system can take corresponding protective measures to ensure the safety of the industrial production process.
  • Internal Power Consumption: The internal power consumption of the safety barrier is low. While ensuring efficient operation, it reduces energy consumption and device heat generation, which helps improve the stability and service life of the device. It is especially suitable for industrial application scenarios that have strict restrictions on power consumption or require long-term continuous operation.

III. Product Structure and Installation

  • Structural Design: It adopts a compact and robust housing design, which can effectively resist dust, moisture, and slight mechanical impacts in industrial environments, ensuring the safe and stable operation of internal circuits. The housing material has good insulation performance, further enhancing the device's safety in electrically complex environments.
  • Installation Method: The MTL5081 is a single-channel design and adopts the standard DIN rail mounting method, which is convenient and fast—only needing to snap it into the DIN rail to complete fixation. At the same time, the terminals adopt a pluggable design; when connecting thermocouple signal cables and connecting wires to receiving instruments, no complex tools are required, and direct plug-and-pull operations can be performed, which greatly simplifies the installation and maintenance process. During later equipment maintenance, upgrading, or component replacement, the pluggable terminals make disassembly and reconnection easy, reducing downtime and improving the efficiency of industrial production.

IV. Application Scenarios

Due to its intrinsically safe characteristics, the MTL5081 is widely used in industrial fields with hazardous environments containing flammable and explosive gases, dust, etc. For example, in the petrochemical industry, for temperature monitoring of reactors, pipelines, and other parts, the temperature signals collected by thermocouples can be safely and accurately transmitted to the control system in the safe area via the MTL5081, ensuring the reliable acquisition and transmission of temperature data in hazardous environments and providing key support for the stable operation and safety control of the production process.
